Sir Henry Joseph Wood was born in London in 1869 and died in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, in 1944. He conducted his first Promenade Concert August 10, 1895, at the Queen’s Hall, London. Since that time, the concerts have transferred to the Royal Albert Hall and developed into a regular, riotous, and much-respected music festival. This recording presents some of the best-loved popular classics that have become associated with “The Proms.”
