Overview
This program from Scholastic and New Video Group features the stories and lyrics of Maurice Sendak. The highlight is Sendak's classic tale "Where the Wild Things Are," about a young boy who is whisked away to a land of bizarre beasts. Though fearsome, he looks them in the eye without blinking, thus gaining their respect and making him the king of the beasts. Though, he soon becomes homesick and decides to travel back to his beloved home. Also featured in this collection is "In the Night Kitchen," about a young boy's nocturnal journey through a baker's kitchen. Rounding out the program are a quartet of Nutshell Kids animated features, each centered around Sendak's art and the music of Carole King. A bonus featurette about Sendak and Spanish and French renditions of "Where the Wild Things Are" are also included. Running time: 54 minutes. Ages 3-8.
