The Suffocation Keep originally started out as a project
called BrettNOTNeTson. Brett Nelson, bass player from Built To Spill
and front man of the late Butterflytrain, decided to do a solo project
using synthesizers only. He called it BrettNOTNeTson after some long-standing
humorous confusion among fans with another Built To Spill member and
front man from Caustic Resin Brett Netson. With the songs recorded
and more confusion avoided, the project was completed in 2000. Soon
after, Grady Kimsey (guitar) approached Brett about playing together
and after a while, they decided to try and figure out the parts from
Brett's solo project and transpose them to guitar. Brett decided that
with enough effect pedals, his solo project might work as a full band.
Brett called up Joe Hensley to drum and his old bass player from Butterflytrain,
Scott Beazer. With that, The Suffocation Keep had two months to find
someone to play keyboards (Jason Ganz), learn songs, and record a
CD before heading out on a twenty-three date West coast tour opening
for Built to Spill in June of 2001. After returning to Boise, the
band decided to re-mix the CD titled John Hughes Was Never So Wrong,
and add a new dynamic to the original recording. Jon Mullin, who recorded
the CD originally, joined the band in August and added his synthesizer
ideas, along with more of Brett's new wave brilliance, and re-mixed
the recording. The latest version of John Hughes Was Never So Wrong
was completed August 2001 in time for Brett to promote it during the
East coast Built to Spill tour in September of 2001.

The is the worst retro crap I've heard in years. Completely mindless and emotional garbage. Otherwise its ok I guess.
