| There are a number of ways to search for information on this site. The following is a brief explanation of how you can use the different search functions to easily find information and music.
Quick Search
The Quick Search field is located on every page in the upper left hand corner, and is used for quick and effective results. To use the Quick Search, simply type in the name of the Artist, CD Title, Category, or Sub-Category. Type the information that you are searching for with no grammatical errors. Your item should appear on the results page. If you do not find the specific disc you are looking for, confirm the spelling and try again or use the Expanded Search page, described below.
Expanded Search
The Expanded Search page offers greater flexibility and lattitude in searching. Use this page to:
Search For Artist/Performer: To search by the name of an artist or performer, simply enter their name and click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page.
If it is a single artist (rather than a group), it works best if you type LAST
NAME first, with a comma, then first name, i.e. Harris, Sam.
Search By Exact/Part Of/Start Of: Many of the search functions (e.g. Artist/Performer and Title) include optional buttons below that allow you to further define the search. If the Exact button is selected, the search will be limited to exactly what you typed in the search field. This is a very limited, specific search.
If the Part of button is selected, you'll search on everything that includes what you typed. So if you typed "Mo" in the artist field, the search would return Mozart, as well as Mo' Blues. This is a much broader search, and allows you greater flexibility.
When the Start of button is selected, your search will begin with whatever letters or words you typed as your search criteria. So if you type "b" in the Title field, select the "Start of Title" button, select Jazz as your category and click the search button, all of the Jazz titles in the catalog that start with the letter "b" will display. This is a handy feature when you want to browse the entire catalog, or browse a specific genre (Category).
Search For Artist/Performer: To search by the title of a CD, simply enter the title and click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page.
Search By Label: To search by one of our labels, simply enter the label name and click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page. At this time, the label name must be entered as it appears on our "Label Listing."
Search By Category: To search by a specific genre or music category, just select from the list and click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page. At this time, the search is limited to 400 titles. However, you can use the "Starts With" feature, detailed above, to browse through the entire catalog.
Search By Composer/Sub-Category: To search by the name of a composer simply enter their name and click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page. An example of a sub-category search might be a search on Organ, Vocal, or Brass.
Choose How Your Search Results Will Be Sorted: Your search results will be sorted by Title, however, you have the option to sort them by Artist, Label and Release Date, just select your choice from the menu.
Display Only New Releases or All Releases: To search for New Releases select the "Display New Releases" button. Again, the search return is limited to 400 titles, however, by using this option, with a Music Category option (e.g. Jazz) you can easily display all of the new Jazz releases.
Display Only Titles That Cost Less Than..: You may also search for CDs that are at certain price points by typing your maximum price in the box. The search will only return CDs costing less than that amount.
Browse the Entire Catalog: To browse the entire catalog, or an entire music category, simply select the category, and click the "Search Now" box. The search is limited to the first 400 titles. To continue your search, note the ending letter of the last page of the search and type that letter in the appropriate box (either "Artist/Performer, or Title). Select of" button and click "Search Now." Your search will display those titles/artists from that letter, going forward, for the next 400 entries.
Using Multiple Search Criteria: You may use multiple criteria to further define your search. For example, you may search on "Mozart" as composer, "String Quartets" as part of the title, and Classical as the category.
