Andrea Luchesi (1741-1801), long neglected in the history books, has come to light again as a forgotten teacher of Beethoven and an important influence on both Haydn and Mozart. In fact, Mozart performed Luchesi’s organ works more often than his own. Memory of Luchesi was suppressed during the Nazi era because authorities did not want any suggestion that Beethoven had to learn from an Italian! All the fascinating works on this album are recorded here for the first time.
