Govannen is the trio of Chris Conway, Dan Britton and Adele McMahon, a group of musicians seasoned in live performance but equally comfortable in the studio. CELTIC FIRE marks a turn from the more ethereal sound of their previous release HEALING WATERS. This time around, the band courts the sprightly jigs, reels and dances of Irish tradition, offering a selection of upbeat numbers that focus on blazing fiddles, twirling tin whistle melodies and the march of bodhran-based rhythms. The mostly instrumental set (a few songs have wordless background vocals) interweaves traditional pieces with Conway's own compositions, sometimes in the same song. You'll be tapping your toes and clapping along to fun melodies like "Morrison's Jig," "Spancil Hill" and the Conway original "Weaving A Spell."
