Saeta’s songs are dramatic, subtle and intimate odes to the darker sides of human emotion. Their latest album, recorded and mixed by Steve Albini, brims with Saeta’s lulling acoustic instrumentation of piano, guitar and cello. Matt Menovcik’s dark vocal current stirs a baritone ocean that Lesli Wood’s voice lights through a broken sky.

“They are one of the most beautiful and phenomenal things I have ever heard. Just sparse enough to be considered space rock, but flavored with just as much tension as there is release. Saeta will comfortably invade your ears with the sweet sounds of remorse and the angsty drive of serenity.” – Action Attack Helicopter

Listener Comments
Throughout the full-length, it's quite clear that not a single note is taken for granted, especially since it's the disc's quieter moments that provide the most impact. The soundtrack for star-crossed lovers everywhere, it's music that makes heartache and sorrow almost pleasurable. Cellist Bob Smolenski provides the backbone of most songs, even when he's barely audible on tracks like "Everything," adding a unique dimension that almost seems celestial. The vocal pairing may seem odd at first (Menovcik sounding like a younger, more emotive Tom Waits, and Wood coming off as a lovelorn torch singer), but really compliment each other perfectly, especially on "Anywhere But Here" and opener "Can You Forgive The One Who Hurt You" What Saeta really boils down to, though, is emotion. The longing of such songs as "Tonight I'll Have To Dream You Here" is almost palpable, while the regret that resonates from Wood's angelic vocals on The Magnetic Fields cover "Grand Canyon" is nothing short of heartbreaking.
