The blossoms of spring, the vibrant life of summer, the fiery hues of autumn and the crystalline serenity of winter… every season brings with it a unique sense of beauty. Composer Hiroki Mino uses the sublime essence of the seasons as a point of contemplation on SEASONS, featuring the emotionally-rich erhu playing of Jia Peng-Fang. The album begins with a suite dedicated to each season. The gentle melodies of "Fang Chun," pairing Mino's piano with Fang's erhu, is an elegant expression of the joy and hope spring brings. "A Breeze of Summer" is languid and pleasantly sunny - befitting the season. "Late Autumn" is richly bittersweet - reflecting the conflicting emotions of autumn's beauty and sadness. "Snow Flower" is twinkly and dreamy, a nod to the playfulness of snowflakes falling to the ground. The album concludes with creative renditions of the bossa nova favorite "Moonlight," Spanish traditional song "El Cant Dels Ocells," the original piece "Sweet Violet" and a cover of Saint-Saens' "The Swan," all in the duo's pensive, peaceful style.

Ram Dass Khalsa (not to be confused with the author and spiritual teacher Richard Alpert) is a classically-trained clarinet player and spiritual seeker, whose gentle chant warms the soul. THE ALCHEMIST'S PRAYER is the artist's debut for Spirit Voyage Records. Featured here are mellow, thought-provoking compositions centered on mantra chants, each featuring light rhythms and arrangements rooted in a mix of Western new age melodies and Eastern instrumentation. Ram Dass' voice is velvety smooth and very easy on the ears, made all the more so when paired with tabla mastery of Manish Vyas, Hans Christian's always impressive cello playing, Amar Khalsa's twirling flutes, the viola of Sabir-Amar Khalsa and the various guitars if Narayan Khalsa.
